Magnetic impurities in spin-orbit coupled superconductors
Magnetic impurities in spin-orbit coupled but otherwise conventional superconductors offer the possibility to create topological phases with Majorana fermions as boundary states. In this talk I will present some of our recent results in modeling these systems, including accurate calculations of the superconducting state through a self-consistent approach. In particular, I will focus on the disorder robustness of the Majorana fermions created at the end points of one-dimensional impurity wires. I will also show how spontaneous currents are very generically present in these systems and discuss their relation to Majorana fermions.
